Just a ping that http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/11401 now has a proper fix and explanation on it. It was already marked "needs review" with a poor, symptomatic fix. The new one solves the heart of the problem, I hope. So if someone feels up to reviewing it ... In principle it could affect other optional interfaces I don't have access to, so it would be good to test those as well.
