You're an engineer, so I think you'll agree that the above argument is
worthless without data! Your guess of 500 watts is just that -- a guess.
An average 500W draw seems high to me, but I'm just guessing too.

Perhaps you could buy a Kill-a-Watt
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kill_A_Watt) or other power meter --
perhaps you already own such a device -- and measure the power at
different load levels (idle, all 8 cores pegged, etc). Then we'd *know*
how much it would cost you.
