I just wanted to say that you should do this, and soon: a few months
ago I ended up involved in a trademark dispute over the name 'ipython'
because someone decided to make an iOS app with that name (that had
nothing to do with the 'real' ipython). We ended up getting support
from the Python Software Foundation who intervened to resolve it, as
well as numfocus.org that covered the legal fees involved, and it all
turned out OK, but it was a huge hassle, an aggravation and ultimately
a waste of time I'd much rather have spent coding.

So this is *not* just hypotheticals, and the sooner you get an
ironclad trademark registration for Sage, the better. Having that
written by good IP lawyers (such as the ones UW has, I'm sure) is
important.

I know you were already moving forward, I just wanted to provide you
with a bit of context in case anyone had doubts this was a real
problem.

Cheers,

f
