OT, but if there is one thing that annoys me to no end then that is 
rent-seeking through subscription models for software. Providing internet 
access is something that is an on-going effort, it requires electricity, 
upstream bandwidth, maintenance. None of this applies to software. It is 
solely a government-supported way for monopolists to rip off the public. 
Put differently, almost no software is "for sale" nowadays, it is only for 
license under terms that put the consumer at an extreme disadvantage. It is 
as if the first sale doctrine does not exists in the realm of software.
