I'm sure that Bill was not actually promoting any nationalistic view, which surely we would all strongly disapprove of. But when applying for funding from the EU one has to answer silly questions about how the project would benefit the EU specifically. For this reason it is very important *not* to describe Sage as a US project, but an international one.
