Isn't there a 'archive/' folder made precisely for that?

Moving the unused packages to 'archive/' would work, wouldn't it?
- It would not appear in the list of standard/optional/experimental
packages anymore
- It would still be available to old-style installs

About standard packages: I think that we could remove that list. Am I
right to think that it would not break anything in old installs?

If this can be done, then we can perfectly have everybody coexist.
