At https://trac.sagemath.org/ticket/23898, I propose updating to GCC 7.2.0. This seems to fix the problem with building Sage with Apple's latest version of Xcode (there is also separate work going to let Sage build with clang with the latest Xcode: #12426 and #23922).
I have tested this on a few different OS X machines, but we need people to test it on other platforms. So please help out!
