Unfortunately, this is not a good idea. We are working hard on making Sagemath compatible with Python 3. With Python 3 you cannot sort objects of different types. For instance sorted([1, 'a']) will raise an error. Currently, in the graph module, vertices can be any hashable objects, so we try to avoid sorting as much as possible. We should certainly change the way vertex ids are handled, but there is a long road ahead...
