Hi: I use gnumeric to compute grades and a Python script I posted to http://sage.math.washington.edu/home/wdj/teaching/grade-script/ to create student grade reports. Where I teach (and other places in the US), student grades are private, and the only purpose of this script is to parse a (carefully formatted) grade spreadsheet (saved as a csv file) into a latex file. I hand these out after an exam to help the students track their progress (or lack of...). The above directory contains a grade script and examples, if you want to use Sage to help you prepare individual student grade reports from a spreadsheet. I have used made-up names and section numbers, so there is nothing private in the examples. If the docstrings or anything is confusing, let me know.
