Some are no doubt aware of this, but anyway. (2) is probably relevant to
computer use in the classroom (and open texts, and IBL, and
service-learning, and lots of other things) that seem to be good but don't
necessarily go beyond early adopters in core ways yet.

NSF has released a new Program Description 14-588 titled Improving
Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE). The IUSE program invites proposals
that address immediate challenges and opportunities that are facing
undergraduate STEM education, including those that anticipate new
structures and new functions of the undergraduate learning and teaching
enterprise (e.g. organizational changes, new methods for certification or
credentialing, course re-conception, cyberlearning, etc.).

Toward these ends the program features two tracks:

(1) Engaged Student Learning that focuses on design, development, and
research studies that involve the creation, exploration, or implementation
of tools, resources, and models that increase student engagement leading to
measurable and lasting learning gains; and

(2) Institutional and Community Transformation that focuses on innovative
approaches to substantially increase the propagation of highly effective
methods of STEM teaching and learning.

Two tiers of projects exist within each track: (i) Exploration and (ii)
Design and Development. These tracks will entertain research studies in all
areas. In addition, IUSE also offers support for a variety of focused
innovative projects that seek to identify future opportunities and
challenges facing the undergraduate STEM education enterprise.
