It depends upon your knowledge of Open Source that you will get the right 
kind of guidance. Anyway the documentation contains everything, right from 
the scratch.
You can hence refer this:

One thing I must tell you that more than algorithms you must have a strong 
hold on concepts of whichever topics are included in your GSoC Project.

Go step by step as you start reading the documentation.
