SAGE builds its own Python from source.   Python only builds extension
modules when the relevant devel library is available.  Thus when you
built SAGE you must not have had the bsddb-dev dynamic library and
headers available.    You should install some sort of bsddb devel package,
then rebuild the python part of SAGE

           sage -f python-2.5.p2.spkg

Look at install.log to see what it says about bsddb.

I don't know exactly how to install db3-dev on OS X.  It's not in fink.
Anyway, note that it is crucial to have the dev package, which will have
the relevant headers.
