Yes, everything went fine, thanks to Michael Abshoff's advice. In summary, here's what I did: cd /opt/sage-2.8/spkg/standard tar xvf linbox-20070812.spkg cd linbox-20070812/linbox_wrap libtoolize --copy --force cd ../.. tar cjf linbox-20070812.spkg linbox-20070812 cd /opt/sage-2.8 make You can of course get rid of the directory linbox-20070812 that got created in the process.
