It is a free version of Java.

Ok, that should not create any problems.

Ok. Can you tar up the .sage directory and put it up somewhere and
post a link? We might be able to reproduce this locally in which case
it is much easier to debug. if the system is online you could give
someone from sage-devel familiar with the notebook access so that this
could be further debugged.

Other than that I know personally too little to be of any use here are
the moment. It would be interesting to see if we can make twisted more
verbose in its output to spot the difference between working and non-
working.

It would also be interesting to see if you created another user on the
box and used the same Sage install if the problem would still be
there.
