Yes, if you link gcc-4.2 to gcc, but g++ is from a different release
things will not go over too well. Any reason you are not using the
default gcc and g++ on that box? Setting CC, CXX and so on will with
high probability screw up the build.
So please supply
(a) the content of env from the shell
(b) information which compiler is installed by the system and
additionally if you have any other compiler installed elsewhere.
