Hello William, (feel free to forward this email wherever you want) I tried to install the SAGE binary below: sage-3.4.1-linux-Debian_GNU_Linux_5.0_lenny-sse2-x86_64-Linux.tar.gz 430.34 MB 2009-04-25 06:20 MD5: 652074ae6ef9c960caaf9555da6b43ac on a old Opteron running debian-amd64, but GMP kept doing illegal instructions. This Opteron does support sse2 though. I rebuild sage from source and it works now. I suspect GMP was build with optimisations that are not available on this machine. the content of cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 15 model : 5 model name : AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 850 stepping : 10 cpu MHz : 2390.378 cache size : 1024 KB fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 1 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 syscall nx mmxext lm 3dnowext 3dnow rep_goodbogomips : 4780.83 TLB size : 1024 4K pages clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 40 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: ts fid vid ttp (repeted 4 times, it is a 4 cpus box).
