This "sage" is the current mode that the notebook is in.  When it is
set to "sage", all of the commands entered into the cells will
evaluated by Sage.  If you set it to "maxima", then all of the
commands will go directly to Maxima, and you will see Maxima's output.
 This allows you to interact with these various systems directly
through the notebook.
