The error message you get "You might want to run SAGE under gdb with
'sage -gdb' to debug this. SAGE will now terminate (sorry)."  is
supposed to explain what you should do.  However, it is really useless
if you're using the notebook!   Instead one should get a message that
really explains what to do, which makes sense even for notebook users.
 Also, it would be good if the notebook had a mode where it can run
the worksheet process under gdb and at least give a traceback when
Sage segfaults.
