I had exactly the same problem and contacted William Stein. He replied yesterday on this website that he has prepared a new version of the .dmg file. You can find it on http://boxen.math.washington.edu/home/wstein/binaries/. This package provides the usual sage functionality. However there are several issues with plotting. See for a few examples my earlier post.
