I think that the upgrade path (i.e. "sage -upgrade") is best left to
developers, and others should just download a complete fresh version.
I am saying this from experience (and despite being a developer --
maybe I need an upgrade myself!).  Whenever I have tried to upgrade, I
have found (1) it takes just as long both on downloading and in
building; (2) the new version does not work; and (3) you have now lost
your old working version.  This is probably unduly pessimistic, but
that has been my experience!  Of course you might have a better time.
