Running Sage 4.3, coercion to the trivial vector space triggers a SIGBUS as below:
---------------------------------------------------------------------- | Sage Version 4.3, Release Date: 2009-12-24 | | Type notebook() for the GUI, and license() for information. | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sage: V = VectorSpace(GF(2),6) sage: W = V sage: quo = V/W sage: quo(V.basis()[0]) ------------------------------------------------------------ Unhandled SIGBUS: A bus error occured in SAGE. This probably occured because a *compiled* component of SAGE has a bug in it (typically accessing invalid memory) or is not properly wrapped with _sig_on, _sig_off. You might want to run SAGE under gdb with 'sage -gdb' to debug this. SAGE will now terminate (sorry). ------------------------------------------------------------ This is on my student's machine, which I do not have access to at the moment: I foolishly logged out without running 'uname -a' or the like. I do believe it is a Mac. My office and home machines are running earlier versions (3.4.2) in which the problem does not occur. If it turns out to be hard to reproduce, I am happy to uncover the relevant data.
