It should have absolutely no negative impact at all on Sage and/or use of the Sage Notebook, which doesn't use X directly at all. Instead, Sage uses a web browser, and as long as web browsers can use "Wayland" (they can), it should just work fine. (And even then, Shuttleworth's blog post says "We’re confident we’ll be able to retain the ability to run X applications in a compatibility mode...") By the way, the Sage notebook also runs fine on OS X, without using X at all.
