I have a similar setup, and this works for me. What happens if you try

sage: magma_console()

On my MacBook Pro (10.7.1) and Mac Pro (10.6.8), I get the magma prompt.

What happens if you escape to a shell from sage ("!sh") and execute "echo
$PATH"?
