Well, I know this is a sort of asking a lot of you, but would you try using the rewritten notebook version at trac ticket #11080 ( http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/11080 ) and see if that works? Hopefully it will go into Sage soon - we're thinking in 5.1 - and we are no longer maintaining the old notebook code (and haven't for about a year and a half (!) now).
