I build Sage for the first time--version 5.0. Everything went OK. I set a few environment variables namely SAGE_FORTRAN, SAGE_FORTRAN_LIB, SAGE64, and SAGE_ATLAS_LIB. I was unhappy that the first step was to build LAPACK though I had specified where the ATLAS library and thus liblapack.a resides. The install picked up the correct version of ATLAS, 3.9.74, on my system.
