The problem you have is not with the interface of sage itself, but with the virtual appliance for windows, which explains the replies you got that pointed out that there is no problem using sage with the command line.
The description at <http://wiki.sagemath.org/SageAppliance#Using_the_Sage_shell> seems to suggest a solution.
