It's not that I get an error message, the problem is that the parent of g should be a multivariate polynomial ring rather than a sympy.core.add.Add class object. After copying my Python code into the worksheet rather than loading the file it works as expected, so I assume that changes the interpretation of the code from Sage to Python. This would explain why it works fine for other people.
