Thanks to Volker Braun the sagemath server is synchronized and you can do

 $ sage -i mcqd

or

 $ sage -i pip

As William mentioned, it is adviced to run "make" each time you
installed a package (actually the advice shows up at the end of the
output of the command "sage -i X")
