Dear Francesco,

you might get images larger than you emacs windows, which you will have 
trouble viewing. Could you try (with inline plots enabled) :
plot(sin, (-pi,pi), figsize=3)
and tell me if you can see the figure ?

Also, could you tell me if, with inline typesetting enabled, 
integrate(arctan(x),x)
does display a typeset formula or not ?
