 One more data point to the above remark malb did. With the patch applied:

 sage: P = PolynomialRing(GF(2),n,'x')
 sage: v = vector(P,100)
 sage: A = matrix(P,100,100)
 sage: %time _ = A*v
 CPU times: user 0.04 s, sys: 0.00 s, total: 0.04 s
 Wall time: 0.04 s
 sage: %time _ = A*v
 CPU times: user 0.00 s, sys: 0.00 s, total: 0.00 s
 Wall time: 0.00 s
 }}}
 So there is more than an order of magnitude improvement here :)
