I don't know if `ring.ref` has any meaning to Singular. If we are indeed
free to use that field for reference counting in Sage then I'm fine with
`trac_13447-consolidated_refcount.patch`.
Upstream plans to get rid of the whole `currRing` global variable
eventually, for the record.
