#13543: Multi-character variables not supported in legend_labels
------------------------+---------------------------------------------------
   Reporter: mjo | Owner: jason, was
       Type:  defect    |            Status:  new
   Priority:  major     |         Milestone:  sage-5.4
  Component:  graphics  |          Keywords:

   Stopgaps:            |
------------------------+---------------------------------------------------
 The simplest example I have is,

 {{{
 sage: hello = var('hello')
 sage: latex(hello)
 \mbox{hello}
 sage: label = '$' + latex(hello) + '$'
 sage: label
 $ \mbox{hello} $
 sage: plot(x, x, 0, 1, legend_label=label)
 ERROR: An unexpected error occurred while tokenizing input
 The following traceback may be corrupted or invalid
 The error message is: ('EOF in multi-line statement', (409, 0))
 ...
 ParseFatalException: Expected end of math '$'
 $ \mbox{hello} $ (at char 0), (line:1, col:1)
 }}}

 It seems that matplotlib doesn't understand `\mbox`. If that's the bug to
 be fixed, we can simply replace `\mbox` with `\rm` when passing to
 matplotlib.

 On the other hand, if I've declared `hello` to be a symbolic variable,
 shouldn't it be marked up as a symbolic variable (i.e. left in math mode)?
