 Besides, for this code it doesn't really matter whether it's a binary or a
 script, it's only needed to check the time when GAP was installed.

 Well, a ''binary'' is more likely to change upon reinstallation than some
 (more or less generic) script.

 (Haven't checked whether it actually gets [re-]created by the GAP spkg.)
