About the horizontal-scroll-mode, that just shows that readline couldn't
figure out the UP capability. Its pretty clear that this is because we
only installed libtermcap, but not an actual termcap data file. So
libtermcap used to fall back to `/etc/termcap`, but newer Linux
distributions don't include that any more since libtermcap is being phased
out in favor of ncurses.
