I just found something crazy: Apparently the rational field got garbage
collected in one of the crashing examples. Hard to believe. But it is in
something using modular symbols, which is very old code, predating the
unique parent paradigma. So, could be that it calls the constructor of the
rational field, rather than a factory or whatever makes the rational field
unique.
