This is an amalgamation of information from the patch at #4857 and the
wiki page [http://wiki.sagemath.org/SPKG_Audit]. Therefore Georg Weber
should get credit for the parts coming from #4857, while Michael Abshoff
and Dan Drake should get credit for the parts coming from the wiki page.
