 I guess I could, but would you mind doing this yourself?  (First because
 it's your change, but also so that I can get an idea about what this
 causes Git to do.  If this kind of thing works smoothly, I'd be happy to
 definitively make this a Git ticket.)  Or do I have to somehow change
 permissions on my branch for that?
