On the benchmark from #11900, I get significantly the same timing with
develop and #10963+#15801:

sage: E = J0(46).endomorphism_ring()
sage: %time g = E.gens()
CPU times: user 3.63 s, sys: 94.9 ms, total: 3.73 s
Wall time: 3.86 s (3.90s for develop)
}}}
This, despite the additional full category initialization.
