Of course after saying that I realised that in Gentoo I can switch to the
BSD one if I want (but freedesktop is the default). I would imagine debian
would be similar, freedesktop is the default but you have an alternative.
Then again anyone savvy enough to use an alternative should be able to
deal with the fall out.
