Passes all tests (sage -testall) and documentation builds cleanly.
Works well as designed, and I'm getting much more sensible behavior
(fallbacks and error messages) when I simulate dvipng or convert missing.
The extra comments and rearrangements in the code make it easier to
understand what's happening.
I meant to say a while back that it makes sense to not work too hard on
the lists of objects - if you want a nice graphic of just a single object,
you can just view it all by itself. And then simple lists should/can
behave rationally.
Documentation looks real good, plus its great to see doctests getting very
close to 100%.
I applied #5975 on top of this, and then it works well for displaying any
graph.
