This is a bug:

sage: var('y')
y
sage: f(x) = piecewise([((0,2), y^3)])
sage: f(1)
1
}}}
The result should be `y^3` as in:
{{{
sage: f(x) = y^3
sage: f(1)
y^3
}}}
