 Modulo this comment about `biseq_init_slice`, I think the public biseq
 interface looks good.

 I have not looked at all the changes of the last few days and I don't feel
 like doing that now. I do plan to review this ticket in some time with a
 fresh look (of course, other reviewers are always welcome). In any case, I
 think the current branch works well enough that you can use it for your
 other tickets.
