This should be a syntax error:
{{{
sage: f(x) = 1 ) + ( cos(x)
}}}
But the preparser turns this into
{{{
sage: print preparse('''f(x) = 1 ) + ( cos(x)''')
__tmp__=var("x"); f = symbolic_expression(Integer(1) ) + (
cos(x)).function(x)
}}}
