Alternatively, for raw data you can use `-1` for the inverse of `0`. But
then, please make sure that the following would work

sage: F.<x,y> = FreeGroup()
sage: F.gen(-1)
x^-1
sage: F.gen(-2)
y^-1
}}}
I do not find it very elegant though.
