 Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to do so unless you explicitly
 specify the coercion. IIRC, there are known issues with finding efficient
 paths. Often times it comes from finding some path depending upon prior
 object creation (i.e., the monomial basis was perhaps [not] created this
 time whereas previously it was not?). It might lead to some slowdown, but
 it may not be a significant part of the computation.
