 So it doesn't make much of a difference whether you change it at the
 beginning or at the end;  in the rare cases where the next version won't
 be ''betaN+1'' you could fix it again at the end, before releasing.
 ''What'' the temporary, internal version number for testing actually is
 doesn't really matter much.
