Comment:

 Some technical points: the source tarball is ''not'' meant to be
 committed, you should just provide a link on this ticket (or attach it to
 this ticket).

 Second, can you write to upstream about the autotools-based build system?
 Ideally, it should be added to upstream instead of Sage.

 Third, autotools is not part of Sage: you must not run `autogen.sh` in
 `spkg-install`. If upstream does not want autotools, then you should put
 the autotools-based build system in the source tarball directly (both the
 autotools source files and the generated files).
