I do not find the difference in reported times for the sage/interface
tests at all disturbing. I seriously doubt that it would be noticeable to
the average user. At the same time the new gap timings suggest that
certain heavy users might be pleasantly surprized.
I plan to test this change some time in the next few days. One thing that
I want out of this change is support for unicode in external packages. I
expect to be able to give it a positive review.
