A stable release is preferred, but if there are good reasons to use a
development version, you can use that (like we do for the standard package
PARI for example). From what I understand, this would qualify as a good
reason.
But above all: document things clearly. A blackbox tarball with no
documentation where it came from is not acceptable. It should be possible
for a third party to obtain exactly the sources that you used (from github
say).
