Major progress -- a lot of problems appear to just "go away" when using
GCC-4.0.x! In particular, the above issue with "Abort Trap" goes away.
The main problem is that some of the fixes I put in for OS X 10.6 with
GCC-4.2.x actually break the 4.0.x build.... anyway, I'm very optimistic
for a complete resolution to the problem of building Sage on OS X 10.6
using GCC 4.0.x.
